the opportunity

WASTE AWAY® needed a way to add accountability and transparency to their services.

“Managers of large residential complexes know that providing doorstep trash and recycling pickup is a top-rated amenity for prospective tenants,” explained WASTE AWAY CEO, Ron Walser. “But until now, resident managers had a hard time being sure that the job – which is done at night – was being done as contracted. Plus, when a tenant violated disposal rules, there was no way for management to prove their case.”

WASTE AWAY’s visionary CEO knew that if his service reps had a mobile app, they could use it to track their work and send disposal violations to their clients.

the solution

Our client initially contracted with another local app development company to build the mobile app. But after an unsatisfactory experience, WASTE AWAY’s CEO hired Big Fish to re-develop their software.

With the app we created, their service reps collect the trash and recycling, and can now take photos and notes of violations. The app generates a report that tells the resident manager the name of the rep, when they arrived and when they completed their tasks.

The app also sends time-stamped violation reports that include photos and descriptions of the violations, so tenants have no basis to dispute them.

Violation reports are sent in real time in PDF format to resident managers, enabling them to deliver the report to the tenant.

Big Fish designed the app, which is used at night, with a dark background to optimize readability for the service reps.

the results

Over 100 valet trash collectors now use the app every night to log their work from the field.

And a year after successfully launching their app, WASTE AWAY® and their custom software were bought by competitor who is a major player in the valet waste removal industry.
